V-Planet will provide users with a very intuitive 3D interactive authoring system allowing for :

Massive very High-Resolution databases Visualisation: V-Planet is able to render, in real-time, massive very High-Resolution Databases, that is millions of Kilometres Square at a centimetric resolution and without any visibility limitation. V-Planet graphics and optimisation algorithms guarantee unprecedented performances even with high-detail database support. The efficiency of the used algorithms can be visualized thanks to the following videos demonstrating the fluent and interactive visualization of massive textured terrain dataset.

Database preparation: V-Planet allows a seamless and rapid preparation of geo-referenced data optimised for a real-time processing. Thanks to state-of-the-art algorithms coming from the Virtual Reality research domain, huge (the Earth) terrain are handled whatever their resolution and whatever their sources.

GIS Interoperability: The V-Planet software will be able to interoperate with several GIS and to display GIS data together with their metadata within the 3D universe.

Navigation : V-Planet allows a soft and real-time 3D terrain fly through with intuitive navigation features and interaction with several peripherals.

Extensibility: The V-Planet software will be available as a stand-alone application. It will be modular in order to enable customers to use additional plug-ins for specific needs such as simulations or special effects. V-Planet will also offer an open Software Developer Kit that will allow developers to develop third-party plug-ins extending or customising the application functionalities
